Just when it seemed that all conspiracy theories that surrounded the assassination attempt on 15-year-old Pakistani girl MalalaYousufzai had settled down, another long list of problems looms on the horizon. Islamic radicalists based in Britain are reportedly preparing to issue a fatwa on the young girl.
According to controversial cleric and one of the founders of radical organization al-Muhajoroun, AnjemChoudary, the fatwa will be announced at the notorious Red Mosque in Islamabad on November 30th, 2012. It is also important to state here that Malala won’t be the only center of attention for this conference. A poster of the event on Facebook provides a greater insight on the agenda of the event.
Others in queue of their wrath, waiting to be declared as apostates or ‘kafir’ include the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
Apart from the agenda, another important factor is the proximity of the Red Mosque to the Parliament and President House- once again a signal towards the formation of a haven for extremist ideology in the heart of the country’s capital itself. It is the same place which was destroyed by Pakistani military during the reign of Pervaiz Musharraf because of being a breeding ground for extremists.
The so-called Shariah 4 Pakistan Conferencewill denounce Malala, accusing her of turning her back to the teachings of Islam. The entire scenario is immensely hilarious and extremely disgusting at the same time.
Malala, a girl who literally took the bullet for standing up for the right of girls’ education in her native land of Swat, seems to be a threat to Islamic radicals and clerics in Pakistan and apparently, now in London as well.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, the militant organization that claimed responsibility for the attack behind Malala said that they will attack her again if she survived. They were right. They are attacking her again, the only difference is, this time the weapon is Islam. So she did survive the attack but still isn’t safe.
For the supporters of Malala and her cause, the question is simple, Iseducation really that huge a crime? Is raising voice against repression a crime that can easily declare someone an apostate? It is humiliating to see how people use Islam and its components to indoctrinate people with a militant version of the religion.
A religion that emphasizes on seeking education for every man and woman has unfortunately been held captive by people for whom Islam is nothing more than a tool that gives them the authority to declare anyone a ‘kafir’.
Another aspect that enhances the horror behind the Shariah 4 Pakistan Conferenceis that the number of people who will support this notion of declaring her an apostate will be overwhelming.
It is safe to assume the event will be attended by thousands, chanting anti-Malala slogans torching effigies as well as flags of Israel and US.
The fact of the matter is that not many have the nerve to stand up against such elements. The reason is simple. They do it in the name of religion and it is the largely prevailing ignorance about the fundamentals of Islam that is capitalized by radical clerics to disseminate their self-made version of the religion.
Along with this the constant feeling of fear that is cultured when it comes to asking questions that may be channeled as questioning not the thought or the action, but Islam itself, further deteriorates the entire situation.
In such circumstances, the need of the moment is to promote and encourage education that can enlighten the human mind about their religion and its basics, so that they can understand that shooting a 15-year-old girl is not an act of valor, but of cowardice and that their religion is not what is portrayed by the hard core radicals
