A former LAPD officer and his girlfriend finally admitted to attempting to smuggle a Mexican citizen illegally across the border last year.

The sun sets on the stupid.

According to The Daily Beast, the Justice Department convicted an ex-Los Angeles policeman and his girlfriend for trying to smuggle a Mexican citizen without documentation into the U.S.

Carlos Curiel Quezada Jr., a 34-year-old former police officer in Los Angeles, was crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in March of last year with his 31-year-old girlfriend, Angelica Godinez, when they were caught red-handed for human trafficking.

Upon checking the Quezada’s 2014 Nissan Juke, a customs official discovered a young man hiding in the rear of the vehicle.

Sure enough, Mexican national Antanasio Perez Avalos, 26, was tucked into the spare-tire well in the cargo section of the SUV without any documents which would allow him to enter the U.S. legally, El Universal reports.

One would imagine that a cop would be smart enough to know how not to get caught doing something illegal! Or, then again, in this case, maybe not.
