Ex-Russian spy Anna Chapman has expressed her wish to marry National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden on Twitter.
Snowden, will you marry me?!— Anna (@ChapmanAnna) July 3, 2013
The former CIA agent leaked top secret classified information to major news organizations and exposed probably one of the most controversial global “surveillance” programs of U.S. intelligence agencies.
Ever since the documents were released, massive outrage sparked across the U.S. over warrantless surveillance programs like PRISM and Boundless Informant. Countries including Germany and France are furious over the Obama administration for snooping into their computer systems and phone records.
The NSA leak has caused quite a lot of damage to the credibility of U.S. government and President Barack Obama has not been able to effectively justify the secret surveillance program yet.
Edward Snowden, the whistleblower fled to Hong Kong after leaking the data to journalists and is on the run since for political asylum since the U.S. government has charged him with espionage. Maybe that’s the reason why Chapman developed “feelings” for Snowden.
The 30-year-old NSA leaker reportedly is stuck at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, Russia and Anna Chapman thought it was the most appropriate time to send Snowden a marriage proposal since he is present in the country anyway.
The former Russian spy who is now a national celebrity in her country didn’t only ask Snowden to marry her; she also asked him if he could be a good father to their prospective children:
@nsa will you look after our children?— Anna (@ChapmanAnna) July 3, 2013
Anna Chapman was residing in New York City as a real estate agent when she was arrested and deported to Russia after being charged with conspiracy. She was taken into custody along with nine other people in 2010 who were working under cover for a Russian spy ring.
Given the fact Snowden has been denied political asylum in several countries and chances are that he will not be able to stay in Russia as well, maybe Chapman marrying the whistleblower isn’t a bad idea after all. He would get legal permission to stay in the country and who knows if they plan a family, he’d become a citizen there.
Edward Snowden should really consider the proposal. And by the way, Anna Chapman is also a catwalk model in Russia so it’s a win-win situation for everybody here. Just saying.
