Stephanie Cegielski, Donald Trump’s former communications director and one of his campaign’s top strategists, has written an open letter on XO Jane to Trump that exposes both why she left and shocking internal details of Trump’s campaign.
Cegielski resigned to protest Trump’s recent comment that “only he can solve” the reason behind Saturday’s bombing in Lahore, Pakistan. Now, she’s revealing the truth behind Trump’s entire political presence.
She notes that she was hired for the Trump campaign last April, and that at the time, his campaign’s goal was to get second place in delegates and poll around 12 percent—“his candidacy was a protest candidacy.”
This confirms what dozens of political pundits and journalists have been speculating for months—that Trump wanted exposure, to change up the status quo, and fracture the GOP establishment. He never wanted to actually be president.
Cegielski says, “I don’t think even Trump thought he would get this far. And I don’t even know that he wanted to, which is perhaps the scariest prospect of all.”
Yet thanks to a silent majority of people who suddenly became not-so-silent once Trump made racist comment after racist comment and caused him to exponentially rise in the polls, Cegielski believes Trump’s narcissism got the best of him: “His ego has now taken over the driver’s seat, and nothing else matters. The Donald does not fail.”
“He doesn’t want the White House. He just wants to be able to say that he could have run the White House… The hard truth is: Trump only cares about Trump…Inside the Trump camp, the slogan became ‘Let Trump Be Trump.’”
Cegielski writes this to appeal to Trump’s supporters whom he is hoodwinking left and right. She urges them to realize Trump is in this solely for himself and cares nothing about the promises he is making to the American people—“ he has no problem abusing your support the same way he cheated hard-working men and women out of millions of dollars, for which he is now being sued.”
What Cegielski claims is nothing numerous political analysts have not hypothesized before. However, to get confirmation of this from someone entrenched in Trump’s campaign is extremely damning.
