Anna Kooiman of Fox News reported a story from a satirical site.

Fox News has lost its sense of irony. How else to explain this mistake they made and eventually owned up to on Saturday: Anna Kooiman, co-host of Fox and Friends informed the viewing public of a strange and bizarre fact: Barack Obama, with the government shutdown cutting off funds to all nationally sponsored museums, was using his personal wealth to fund the International Museum of Muslim Cultures. The museum does exist, but no, Obama is not using his own money to keep it open. The news came from satire site the National Report.

Kooiman tweeted her apologies:

This incident is the latest in a long line of Fox News mistakes. Why does Fox News keep doing this sort of thing? Because they don’t bother to check their sources when those sources are saying what they want to hear. It would have taken about a minute of internet research to figure out that Obama is not funding the International Museum of Muslim Cultures, but that’s a minute more than Fox News chooses to spend fact-checking a story that paints Obama as a creepy figure who just wants to be President to help his Muslim-union-communist friends. That’s why Fox News gets trolled like this when no other big news service has this problem.

Anna Kooiman wasn’t the only one to get trolled by the Muslim Museum story. The top comment under the National Report post was either a Fox News fan or someone doing some next-level satire.

Dan B.: “Why hasn’t this Muslim loving idoit been impeached yet???”

And yes, he wrote “idoit.”
