Fox News & New York Post Freak Out Over Marines Wearing “Girly” Hats, Blame Obama

Fox News and the New York Post have a breaking news alert: Obama wants U.S. marines to wear girly hats!

Fox News and the New York Post have a breaking news alert: Obama wants U.S. marines to wear girly hats! Yes folks, here is just a slice of what passes for reporting in the Murdoch empire (Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp owns both the New York Post and Fox News). From the Post’s “girly hats” scoop:

“A change to the Marine Corps’ uniform hats could take the hard-nosed Leathernecks from the Halls of Montezuma to the shops of Christopher Street.

Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a ‘unisex’ look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps – known as ‘covers’ — with a new version that some have derided as so ‘girly’ that they would make the French blush.”

In case that first sentence flew over your head, it means that  the old Marine hats are like that of an awesomely vicious Aztec ruler, and the new “unisex” ones are totally gay. Take a look at these marines:

Ok, now look at the halo at the top of their hats. Trivia time: is that the part that makes it gay or not gay? Is this the Aztec ruler hat or the go to the gay club hat?

You’d think it would be immediately apparent, given how extreme the language of the article is. Also, let’s not be drawn in by the Post/Fox News’ claim that the “girly hats” directive came straight from Obama. Obama’s a busy guy. Given that there is no quote from him or even pointing to him in either the Fox News or the New York Post piece, I’m pretty sure the “girly hats” decision was delegated to someone way down the chain of command. (Oh, and trivia answer: those are the Montezuma hats. Girly hats are more cylindrical and don't have a less pronounced top circle.)

Fox News and the New York Post are bad at reporting, but they do excel at unintentional self-parody.
