A woman who fled after being convicted of disability and insurance fraud in January this year has been caught in Mexico because of her extremely foolish display of overconfidence and stupidity on Twitter.

Former Amtrak clerk and 60 years old Wanda Lee Ann Podgurski, in an attempt to taunt law enforcement agencies, tweeted ‘Catch me if you can’ from her account which is not accessible for now. A screen shot was however available.

The New York Daily News reports, “Podgurski was charged with insurance fraud after authorities became suspicious of her claim that she became injured after falling in her home seven years ago.”

This is her tweet:

This is probably one of those silly crime stories where the criminal tries too hard to outsmart law enforcement officials and fails while doing so. Although her account is unreachable at the moment, people on Twitter are still mocking Podgurski for her effort.

She had also tweetedHelp find me before I con anyone else’ before which explains why the authorities were so keen to find her. After all, she implored them to do so. She can’t complain.

According to Forbes, “Podgurski herself was arrested after LAPD’s CATCH (Computer and Technology Crime High-Tech Response Team) extracted embedded geotag information in Podgurski’s tweets to garner the geographic information of where exactly she had been tweeting.”

Turns out, Twitter or any social networking site for that matter shouldn’t be taken as lightly as Podgurski did, especially when you are a fugitive just like her! And to tweet to D.A. is such an Amanda Bynes move. Podgurski, admit it. You wanted to get caught!
