George Zimmerman: domestic violence charges have been filed against the man recently acquitted of killing Trayvon Martin. PHOTO: John E. Polk Correctional Facility
George Zimmerman, yes, the George Zimmerman who was acquitted after shooting Trayvon Martin, has been arrested for domestic violence after attacking his pregnant girlfriend. A brief news release from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated that George Zimmerman was being held on domestic violence related charges after an incident with his girlfriend. As an added twist to this, George Zimmerman’s girlfriend claims that she is pregnant.
Zimmerman is being held at John Polk Correctional Facility, as he waits a hearing on the domestic violence incident.
Neighbors said that Zimmerman’s truck had been parked outside of his girlfriend’s dwelling for about a month. Zimmerman recently was divorced from his wife, following another potential domestic violence incident with his wife and father-in-law. Zimmerman was ultimately not charged in that case, but he may not be so lucky in this one.
In case anyone doubted after the Trayvon Martin killing (in which Martin was unarmed, and Zimmerman was told repeatedly by law enforcement to not pursue Martin) that George Zimmerman is a violent person, this case of domestic violence ought to put those ideas to rest. Zimmerman became a dubious cause célèbre for second amendment activists during the Trayvon Martin trial. The claim was that Zimmerman was just protecting himself. Now he seems to have run out of allies, including lawyer Mark O’Mara, who represented Zimmernam during the Trayvon Martin trial, but will not be representing him for this domestic violence case.
