A German tourist has died in Peru after falling from the top of Machu Picchu.

Oliver Paps, 51, was standing on the mountain’s peak when he asked a fellow tourist to take a picture of him posing midair, according to The Guardian.

“I’m going to jump in the air – take a photo for me as a memory,” Paps said before he died.

Paps is said to have tumbled about 650 feet at Machu Picchu, falling into a deep abyss.

Prior to his death, the tourist had entered a forbidden area of the mountain that had security barriers to prevent people from coming in.
