Mystery Police Car Chases Man On Go-Kart Down California Freeway

A rather unusual police chase in Oakland was caught on camera as officers attempted to pull over a go-kart.

The video shows a man in the go-kart speeding along 880 Freeway near Oakland, California, as patrol cars closely follow him. Meanwhile, onlookers on the other side of the road can be seen cheering and recording the bizarre incident on camera.

Go-karts are illegal on California roadways, however, a Twitter user who uploaded footage of the chase claimed such sights are not uncommon in Oakland.

“Every so often guys meet up to ride dirt bikes and go-karts around Oakland,” he tweeted.

“This particular person on the go-kart was the slowest and the last in the pack. That’s why he was being chased by police.”

There’s one mystery involving the episode though. California Highway Patrol told the Daily News that they were unaware of the chase and the Oakland Police Department had no records of going after a go-kart on that freeway.

“It’s certainly unusual,” stated Officer Sean Wilkenfeld, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol in Oakland.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department told the Los Angeles Times none of their patrol cars were involved in the incident.
