In a weird scene captured on video, Czech President Vaclav Klaus is approached by an armed attacker who shoots him in the arm a half-dozen times with a toy gun.
The 26-year-old assailant dressed in camouflage told Nova TV that he shot Klaus because the president is “blind and deaf to the laments of the people." He was arrested soon after.
"You really did not manage this well," Klaus, 71, reportedly told his bodyguards. The fact that everyone was so casual about this whole thing was probably because of the fact that the Czech presidency is largely a symbolic office in the country. The real power lies with Prime Minister Petr Ne?as.
Nonetheless, the incident is serious enough to inform the president that he needs to take his security more seriously than before.
