A halal meat house was bombarded with a “petrol bomb” in the West Midlands, England, in the aftermath of Britain's vote to leave the European Union, a move many consider anti-immigrant.
Bashir Hussain, the owner and operator of the business, “Kashmir Meat & Poultry,” in Wednesbury Road, Pleck, Walsall, was working at the store at the time when, what police called an “accelerant,” was thrown into his shop.
The Molotov cocktail hit the victim, but thankfully, only resulted in minor bruising and Hussain was able to escape the shop. The store, however, was enveloped by the flames and suffered huge property damage.
The shop had its windows blown out and the inside was decimated.

I shop in Asian stores like this. When racists attack UK Kashmiris, or any other minority, they attack us all.https://t.co/KmzuA5PFji— Hugh Jaeger (@HughJaeger) June 28, 2016
Its not called "terrorism" when the victims are brown and Muslim. Shocking attack on the streets of Britain. https://t.co/dkZ2rJmZ7Z— Marcus Storm (@MarcsandSparks) June 28, 2016
Yesterday a halal butcher's shop was petrol bombed, & a man with a swastika tattoo told BBC news that he's not racist. Progress is a myth.— Esther Adaire (@esthermaschine) June 28, 2016
West Midland’s police state the culprit, who was a 6-foot white man and was wearing a blue jacket, walked into the store at 5:25 p.m. and hurled the accelerant at Hussain. The police are combing through CCTV footage to investigate the attack and have assured the community that they will carry out additional patrols.
The police have said they have not yet determined the motive of attack and do not want to dub it a hate crime, yet locals insist it was part of a series of xenophobic attacks after the Brexit.
One said tensions have been “running high in the community” in the aftermath of the upsetting decision to leave the European Union. Peole perceived not to be of British origin are being screamed at, attacked and mocked in a series of increasing incidents following the vote.
“I have overheard people making comments to Eastern European residents and Muslims that they should go home now. Just because we voted to leave the EU it doesn’t mean we should only be a country of white Brits,” said Mary Walker, a resident of Pleck. “I’m positive the man who runs it isn’t even European, it’s just mindless racism which people think is OK now just because we voted out. This poor butcher works hard for a living, which I bet is more than you can say for the idiot who did this.”
