A haunting new visualization shows every nuclear bomb detonation since 1945 totaling to a daunting 2,053 bombs set off that showcase the overwhelmingly might and mass of our global nuclear warfare.

Modern warfare was never the same since the nuclear bombs were dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki that erupted in heavy devastation and destruction. As our world’s superpowers have competed against each other throughout the decades to see who has the greatest weapons (dishearteningly equating to the greatest strength) has led to the disappointing result of an endless series of bomb testing. To help visualize the staggering arms race, Canadian music and visual art group Orbital Mechanics captured every detonation in a video entitled Trinity.

The map pinpoints the when, where and who in this interactive timeline with the United States coming in at number one with 1,030 bombs detonated followed by Russia with 715 and the United Kingdom with 45.

The daunting presentation reads like a history of international tensions and conflicts that has shaped the political landscape today.
