Huma Abedin has long been considered one of world’s most intriguing women. Stunning, smart, fluent in Arabic and notoriously discreet, she has for more than a decade held a firm place in the Clintons' powerful orbit, mostly as Hillary Clinton’s “body person.”
“Abedin has the energy of a woman in her 20s, the confidence of a woman in her 30s, the experience of a woman in her 40s, and the grace of a woman in her 50s,” Clinton told Vogue in 2007. “She is timeless, her combination of poise, kindness and intelligence are matchless.”
Abedin has been featured in Vogue — a spotlight not generally afforded a political staffer — and has been the subject of numerous profiles. She was listed in Time’s “40 under 40” young stars in politics.
Her first job for Clinton was as a White House intern in 1996 when Clinton was the first lady.
Abedin always worked close to her, and in 2000 — when Clinton was running for the senate — the aide became her ubiquitous traveling aide, the person with Clinton every waking minute, who makes the trains run on time and who must anticipate her boss’ needs.
Abedin has served as vice chairwoman for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign for president since 2015 and continues in her role as personal assistant to Clinton.
"Huma does make the trains run on time," Clinton lawyer Bob Barnett claims.
Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but relocated to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with her parents when she was 2 years old. Her father was an Indian-born Islamic scholar who died in 1993, and her mother, a Pakistani, is a well-known academic.
Her religion has landed her in trouble more often than not and she has been bombarded with rumors of having links with the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist political movement.
So much so, that conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh even roped in Hilary Clinton in the conspiracy saying she was a member of a secret sisterhood of Muslim ladies with Huma Abdein and the new first lady of Egypt. The relationship that they share together makes them get along with their agenda of hating America, according to these conspiracy theorists.
President Barack Obama came out to praise and show support to his "good friend" Abedin.
He said Abedin, who has been at Clinton's side in the White House, the Senate, her 2008 Democratic campaign against Obama and in her globe-trotting travels at the State Department, had worked tirelessly to represent the United States.
Clinton, once Obama's top diplomat, has relied on Abedin's expertise and "so have I," the president added.
"The American people owe her a debt of gratitude because Huma is an American patriot, and an example of what we need in this country — more public servants with her sense of decency, her grace and her generosity of spirit," he said.
"So, on behalf of all Americans, we thank you so much," Obama told Abedin.
Even Republican Sen. John McCain spoke strongly in her defense, saying she was a devoted public servant full of "decency, warmth and good humor."
"Put simply, Huma represents what is best about America: the daughter of immigrants, who has risen to the highest levels of our government on the basis of her substantial personal merit," McCain said.
Anthony Weiner was a playboy congressman when he wooed Hillary Clinton’s most-trusted aide, 12 years his junior, to marry him.
What followed was a series of public humiliations as Weiner repeatedly, and shamelessly, embroiled himself in one sexting scandal after another. After blowing his second and even third chance for public redemption, another scandal emerged this week.
Many thought Abedin would leave him long ago but she surprised everyone by forgiving him and sticking to his side till earlier this year when Weiner got embroiled in yet another texting scandal. This time around, Weiner’s young son also features in one of the lewd photos.
This, perhaps, was the last straw for his wife who finally decided to call it quits.
She issued a statement saying, "After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy."
The Email Controversy
Just days before the 2016 elections, Abedin also became embroiled in the Clinton e-mail scandal when emails were discovered as part of a separate probe of Weiner.
Federal investigators secured a warrant to examine newly discovered emails to see if they are relevant to its probe of the private email server used for government work by Clinton while she was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.
