A woman from North Carolina bought a freezer from her neighbor’s yard sale and thought herself very lucky when she landed a great bargain on the purchase.
Her neighbor, who had told her the freezer was previously used as a time capsule, said someone from a church would come to collect the remaining contents from it very soon. However, when no one turned up for several weeks, the woman, who didn’t want to be named, opened the freezer — only to find a woman’s foot in it.
"She told me that if I could keep it here and keep it sealed until the church came and picked it up, got the contents, I would be able to keep the deep freezer afterward,” the woman who had bought the freezer said.
She immediately called the police to her Goldsboro home.
“My heart was in my throat and I ran outside, called 911,” she told WNCN News.
Authorities identified the remains as the neighbor's mother, who hasn't been seen since September and lived with the neighbor. The neighbor told others she was leaving the area to go be with her mother in West Virginia.
Officials said the mother died of natural causes.
“She sold me her frozen mother for $30. How do you do something like that?” the horrified women said.
