While Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been busy campaigning and bad-mouthing President Obama day and night, his foreign policy advisors (Eliot Cohen and Richard Williamson to be precise), have been busy drumming up scenarios. Their favorite is ‘how Romney would act’ if he was the President of the United States!
This is what they have come up with:
- Set stricter limits for Iran and its nuclear program, especially a nuclear bomb.
- Tell the Egyptians to protect US interests on their soil if they wanted $1 billion in debt to be forgiven by the US.
- Provide more aid and facilitating elements of the Syrian opposition. He would of course not go as far as arming them personally (rather let someone else get a noose around their necks)
- Increased involvement in the formation of a new Libya.
The Romney camp thinks President Obama is a bit vague in his policies and dealings with the Middle East especially with respect to Iran. Though President Obama has said he would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, he has so far refused calls from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to set a deadline or take any concrete steps in that direction.
Mitt Romney and his camp also feel that the killing of four Americans in Libya demands USA becoming economically and militarily stronger.
On the other hand, as the polls show President Obama has sprinted ahead 7% since the DNC. The race is no longer stagnating at a tie.
Well, if wishes were horses….
