Looks like Indian Minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife has decided to bring her domestic battles out into the open and what better way to let the world know that her husband is having an affair than Twitter.
“So apparently there is a twitter cat-fight going on between Pakistani Daily Times editor and Indian minister's wife over a guy with a wig,” read an update of a Facebook user, who rather aptly described the situation.
The minister has found himself in the middle of a scandal involving a Pakistani journalist; Mehr Tarar.
It all started when a string of messages started to appear on his Twitter account on Wednesday evening. They showed a series of tweets apparently between him and the lady journalist from across the border. In the communication, Mehr professes her love for Tharoor and he in turn lets her know that his wife has discovered their affair.
Tharoor said his account was hacked.
Sorry folks, my @Twitter account has been hacked & will be temporarily deactivated. Bear with me while we solve this.— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) January 15, 2014
On the other side of the border, Mehr Tarar was perturbed this development and openly tweeted her anguish.
Okay. What's going on? Who's tweeting to me? I had an 'affair' with Shashi Tharoor and he's tweeting to me??? How does that work?— Mehr Tarar (@MehrTarar) January 15, 2014
I know Shashi T& respect him greatly. Hv tweeted/written abt it openly.Feel awful abt wht's being tweeted. Maybe @TwitterIndia shld check?— Mehr Tarar (@MehrTarar) January 15, 2014
Twitter is crazy today. The downside of technology. Sorry guys, can't respond any more. Not funny at all. It's all very, very sick.— Mehr Tarar (@MehrTarar) January 15, 2014
Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar later confessed that she was posting intimate private messages sent by Mehr to her husband's account to show the world that the Pakistani journalist was ‘stalking her husband’.
She also added that neither her husband’s not her account had been hacked.
"Our accounts have not been hacked and I have been sending out these tweets. I cannot tolerate this. This is a Pakistani woman who is an ISI (Inter Services Intelligence) agent, and she is stalking my husband. And you know how men are. He is flattered by the attention. I took upon myself the crimes of this man during IPL (Indian Premier League). I will not allow this to be done to me. I just can't tolerate this. I have nothing more to say."
She felt“destroyed as a wife and a woman” over her husband’s “rip-roaring affai”’ that had been going on since April last year. Sunanda said she would file for divorce.
Mehr denies being involved with the minister and says she will sue Sunanda Pushkar for defamation.
I have nothing to say to a woman clearly out of her mind. To be called an ISI agent, a stalker..I have nothing to add. Just shows who she is— Mehr Tarar (@MehrTarar) January 16, 2014
I'm not avoiding answering any of u. I just consider it beneath me 2 respond 2 personal attacks on me here. Not a Jerry Springer-reality show— Mehr Tarar (@MehrTarar) January 16, 2014
In a twist of events however, a joint statement has also emerged from Shashi and his wife stating that they are “happily married and intend to remain that way” and “distressed by the unseemly controversy that has arisen about some unauthorized tweets from our Twitter accounts”.
“Various distorted accounts of comments allegedly made by Sunanda have appeared in the press. It appears that some personal and private comments responding to these unauthorised tweets -- comments that were not intended for publication -- have been misrepresented and led to some erroneous conclusions.”
“Sunanda has been ill and hospitalised this week and is seeking to rest. We would be grateful if the media respects our privacy,” added the statement.
Sunandana may actually be hospitalized. After all, the lady has shown a fair share of aggression in recent times.
Apart from this twitter warfare, she lost it at a party in Dubai this week and threatened to douse a journalist talking to her husband with a drink.
“This is why I hate the media,” Sunanda is said to have shouted. “I have thrown liquor at Arnab Goswami.” (a leading Indian television anchor). “You think I can’t do that to you?”
The same lady slapped a political worker last year as well.
Perhaps Mehr need not take the ranting of this lady seriously as everyone in the media seems to rub her the wrong way.
