More than 800 million Indians are getting ready to elect their next set of leaders, including a Prime Minister. Here are some of the issues that they are thinking about when casting the ballot.

India's general election, the largest democratic exercise in history, is underway and people are in the process of electing 543 members to the lower house of parliament and eventually the country's next prime minister.

The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Congress party are going head to head, but whoever gets elected will have a host of issues to resolve. However, some of the problems are more persistent than others – 5 of them to be exact.
