A buffalo on the runway at night at Surat airport. Simply inexcusable.— Sanjiv Kapoor (@SKapoorSpiceJet) November 6, 2014
Kapoor is the COO of SpiceJet, India's the fourth largest airline.
A SpiceJet Boeing 737-800 was taking off at the Surat airport on Thursday when it struck a buffalo. The plane's captain reported that the buffalo was set against a black background, and therefore invisible. No passengers or crew were hurt in the accident but the buffalo died.
Some on Twitter were comparing the collision to a bird strike but Kapoor wasn't having any of it.
Those trying to absolve airport by equating animal with bird strikes... animals do not fly over airport fences-they walk through gaps!— Sanjiv Kapoor (@SKapoorSpiceJet) November 6, 2014
