The people of India are now bent on telling the world that sexual abuse and violence against women will not be tolerated anymore. Just when the criminals of the 2012 Delhi-Rape Case were charged for raping a 23-year old woman, another case emerged in the district of Chirang, on the border of Bhutan, where a politician of the ruling Congress party has been suspended for raping a girl in Assam.
The man, Bikram Singh Brahma who is Baksa district Congress Committee chairman, allegedly entered the house of the woman in the middle of the night and sexually abused her according to a police official. On hearing the screams, people rushed towards the house and caught the man.
Footage was run on television showing the people of the village in broad daylight, kicking and slapping the man for his heinous crime. People tried to strip him and beat him with sticks.
The villagers demanded a recorded confession from him before being arrested. The police, however, have taken him into custody and did not arrest him. The case is now pending.
