A new Instagram account popped up six days ago, which hypothetically addresses Ivanka Trump, the businesswoman and oldest daughter of President-elect Donald Trump. The account presses Ivanka with tough questions about her father’s heavily criticized policies.
All of the posts consider how Ivanka can possibly continue to support her father when there are so many legitimate reasons to be against him. Overall, the account gives a voice to people who would be marginalized during her father’s presidency.
“Dear Ivanka” was created by Halt Action Group, a group of mostly unknown people, although New York Magazine’s The Cut identified artist Jonathan Horowitz and curator Alison Gingeras as part of the collective.
The account is filled with questions such as, “Dear Ivanka, will you keep another Jew like me safe from Steve Bannon and the KKK?” Another statement reads, “Dear Ivanka, I’ve been raped and I need to have an abortion.”
The #GrabYourWallet campaign has also spoken out against Ivanka’s silence and complacency toward her father’s ill-founded rhetoric and policies. The campaign encourages consumers to boycott products from Ivanka’s many businesses.
While Ivanka is not directly responsible for her father’s viewpoints, she can and should be held accountable for staying quiet about some of his more outrageous and bigotry-filled policy suggestions.
