Overcoming Disability

Overcoming a disability is never easy, but there are those that rise up against the odds and serve as an inspiration for all of humanity. These are the real heroes. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued the following statement to mark the occasion:

“More than 1 billion of us live with disabilities. We must remove all barriers that affect the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in society, including through changing attitudes that fuel stigma and institutionalize discrimination.”
