As if the Israeli government's refusal to let the human rights experts enter Gaza to investigate allegations of war crimes and human rights violations wasn't enough, they have now banned Norway's philanthropist doctor and human rights activist Mads Gilbert from entering their territory as well.
They say the lifetime ban is due to security concerns.
Norway's Secretary of State, Bård Glad Pedersen, said to VG: “From the Norwegian perspective, we have raised Gilbert's exclusion from Gaza and asked Israel to change their decision. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is still difficult and there is a need for all health workers.”
Dr. Gilbert, an open critic of Israeli atrocities in Gaza, however, feels the decision is connected to his critical comments against the state of Israel.

The outspoken doctor wrote a letter to the global media in July this year about the bleak conditions at the Shifa hospital in Gaza, where he had worked for the last 30 years.
“And as I write these words to you, alone, on a bed, my tears flow, the warm but useless tears of pain and grief, of anger and fear. This is not happening!” he wrote.
“And then, just now, the orchestra of the Israeli war-machine starts its gruesome symphony again, just now: salvos of artillery from the navy boats just down on the shores, the roaring F16, the sickening drones (Arabic 'Zennanis', the hummers), and the cluttering Apaches. So much made in and paid by the US.
“Mr. Obama - do you have a heart?
“I invite you - spend one night - just one night - with us in Shifa. Disguised as a cleaner, maybe.
“I am convinced, 100%, it would change history,” he wrote.
He added, “Nobody with a heart AND power could ever walk away from a night in Shifa without being determined to end the slaughter of the Palestinian people.”
But he also knew and was fearless to say, “But the heartless and merciless have done their calculations and planned another 'dahyia' onslaught on Gaza.
“The rivers of blood will keep running the coming night. I can hear they have tuned their instruments of death.”
Realistically speaking, Gaza supporters like Dr. Mads Gilbert will definitely not be welcomed back by the Israeli government. He is vocal about the human rights crisis and not afraid to air his disconcert with the Israeli government:
Israel is determined in its efforts to isolate Gaza and keep all sorts of help away from it. Had it been possible in this day and age, it would have kept the prying eyes of media away from the region as well. But that is beyond its control. Speaking of which, one feels that even though Dr. Gilbert has been driven away from the land he loves and feels so much for, Israel has in fact strengthened his resolve to work more for the people of Gaza.
He will perhaps now be more vocal and push for more action after this incredulous behavior of the state of Israel.
