The fashion-savvy Ivanka Trump just wanted to buy a tiny piece of jewelry, but she was not prepared for the huge amount of embarrassment that would come with it.
The eldest daughter of Donald Trump was shopping online when she spied the most perfect golden ear cuff and added it to her shopping cart without a second thought. The helix ear cuff from indie brand Lady Grey cost $84, a pittance for someone as rich as Trump, but the thank you note that came with it was priceless.
The owners of the jewelry business, Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader, who have ornamented stars like Beyonce and Rihanna, clearly are not fans of Trump’s political leanings, but instead of refusing the order that came up to $172, decided to pay it forwarded and posted a handwritten note to Trump.
“Dear Ivanka, Thank you for your web order! We're happy to let you know that the proceeds of your sale have been generously donated to the American Immigration Council, the Everytown for Gun Safety Organization, and the Hillary Clinton campaign. We hope you enjoy your new Lady Grey #helixcuff. Best, Sabine and Jill.”
The unconventional thank you note was also photographed and posted on various social media channels of Lady Grey.
This is the first time a popular brand has openly taken a political stance over customer relations. Is the move a wise one? No doubt it will alienate some customers, but we can certainly applaud the brand’s boldness and respect them for their activism.
The reactions from potential customers have been mixed: Some have congratulated the brand on taking a firm stance while others called them out for unprofessionalism.

Every Republican return ALL #ladygrey products. They only want Democrat clients. Their words not mine.— ~VintageGlam~ (@LadyTConnor) August 17, 2016
While don't agree with Trump or his campaign I also don't agree with this #Ladygrey crap, either. Both are trashy BS.— ExGOP NeverTrumpEver (@DeniseDavies8) August 17, 2016
It’s unclear if the bold move will drive up sales for Lady Grey but the ear cuff that Trump ordered has run out of stock due to popular demand.
“While we were flattered to receive an order from Ivanka Trump, our social and political views couldn't be further from those of the Trump campaign,” Martinelli and Le Guyader told Refinery29. “When we received her order, we instantly felt compelled to take the money and donate it to a few organizations that were more aligned with our ideals...We strongly feel that everyone and anyone can make a difference through actively supporting the causes that they believe in, no matter how big or small.”
