Actor Jim Carrey has made several absurdly fallacious statements about vaccines in the past but this rant takes the cake.
Referring to a new legislation signed by California Gov. Jerry Brown, under which parents will no longer be able to exempt their children from vaccines on the basis of religious or personal beliefs, the Dumb and Dumber actor said:
California Gov says yes to poisoning more children with mercury and aluminum in manditory vaccines. This corporate fascist must be stopped.— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) July 1, 2015
They say mercury in fish is dangerous but forcing all of our children to be injected with mercury in thimerosol is no risk. Make sense?— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) July 1, 2015
I am not anti-vaccine. I am anti-thimerosal, anti-mercury. They have taken some of the mercury laden thimerosal out of vaccines. NOT ALL!— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) July 1, 2015
Carrey went on to says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cannot solve a problem they “helped start,” adding the nation’s leading public health institute is too timid and “corrupt” to admit that they have been wrong about mercury/thiomersal.
Predictably, the actor is being criticized for his criticism of vaccines:
Absolutely love Jim Carrey for his films but his hugely damaging spreading of vaccination lies is disappointing.— Mat (@dinosaurblue) July 1, 2015
Exposure to Jim Carrey's movies causes more mental disabilities in children than vaccines.— Patrick J. Sparrow (@elegantbrew) July 1, 2015
Well, Jim Carrey just lost some of my respect.— Erin (@Jinxanna) July 1, 2015
I love Jim Carrey, but this is not a guy I'm listening to on the issue of childhood vaccination. pic.twitter.com/XXYiSymC6P— Dan Thomas (@danthomascomedy) July 1, 2015
In addition to being an anti vaxxer, Jim Carrey also owes us all an apology for The Cable Guy.— Butt Medler (@OreoSpeedwagon_) July 1, 2015
