Arizona Senator John McCain suggested that the White House should send former president Bill Clinton to negotiate a peace deal between Israel and Palestine. While discussing the ongoing turmoil, McCain argued that "the United States should obviously be as heavily influential as they can" and that the best way to do that is to have someone like Clinton, "a person of enormous prestige and influence."

The senator praised Israel’s Iron Dome system which was funded primarily by the US, and at the same time argued that President Barack Obama should have not forced Israel to stop expanding settlements in 2009.

On the other hand, President Obama has fully supported Israel and said that it is Israel’s right to defend itself against any sort of violence.
