Joyce Banda became the President of Malawi on 7th April 2012. She is widely recognized and supported as an educator and grassroots women’s' rights activist. She was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009 and Vice-President of Malawi from May 2009 to April 2012. Banda took office as President following the sudden death of President Bingu wa Mutharika. She faces a lot of challenges as the Head of State of Malawi, a country riddled with economic and political crises. But the people of Malawi as well as the international affairs observers are confident that she can deliver Malawi from its problems and put it on a path to progress.
