Clearwater, Florida-- Nearly 100 miles away from where Caylee Anthony was reported missing, her mother, Casey Anthony sat tearfully as the judge read could-be jurors the indictment that accuses her of not only murdering her daughter but also lying to authorities. Among being charged with capital murder for the death of Caylee, Anthony also faces six other charges.
After Judge Belvin Perry Jr. denied the defense’s change of venue request, he offered an alternative to find jurors who are not flooded by the media about the case. Jurors will be selected from Clearwater (the location kept secret until just this morning) and once selected, the jurors will be transported to Orlando where the trial is set to take place. During the trial, all jurors will be sequestered, staying in hotels without access to the internet or any form of news. Contact with family members will take place via telephone, in a room supervised by a court deputy.
Out of the 110 potential jurors, 14 men and 7 women will be called back Wednesday. Once the jurors are selected, the trial is set to begin May 17.
Over 500 applications for media credentials have been submitted, designated areas for protestors have been set up and we can’t wait for the trial to unfold. Stay tuned.
