London Call in Troops For Olympics Security

Londoners and visitors to the city need not worry for their safety during the Olympics as British officials have deployed an additional 1,200 military personnel bringing the total of British troops on duty during the Olympics to 18,200.

Though the authorities stress that there's no threat to the games, but the additional number of security will fill the gap created by the private security firm G4S’s failure to deliver all of the 10,000 personnel it had promised to guard Olympic venues.

Hence the additional troops are just a precautionary measure.

The troops will join some 3,500 of their colleagues already guarding Olympic venues, ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday.
