Amidst all the violence, chants of descent and political upheaval; there was at least one love story that blossomed.
From what seems like a scenario straight out of a romance novel, a police officer and a journalist acting as a human shield during violent protests in Ukraine have fallen in love.
24-year-old Lidia Pankiv, a journalist, had been among a group of women standing between police and a group of protesters. Among all the commotion, she had to call out her phone number to a friend; little knowing there was someone on the other side who would benefit the most from it.
She was surprised when she received a text saying, "Despite all the commotion, I remembered your phone number when you gave it to your friend. I don't even know your name.
I was standing in the night with a shield in front of you. When you stopped us from advancing, I realized that I want to marry you. Andrei.”
At first she couldn’t believe it was for real. She even tried telling him he probably mistook her for someone as they had stood on the opposite sides throughout the protests.
But Andrei had made no mistake and his heart was set on the girl he couldn’t get out of his head. Luckily for the cop, it wasn’t long before Lidia found herself falling for him.
One would imagine that the journalist would have gone soft after falling in love, but in reality, her opinions remained stronger than ever. When invited by a local channel to talk about her romance, she accepted the invitation and also took the chance to blast the local media for its shoddy coverage of the protests.
“I came here today only because I found out that this is a live broadcast,” she said.
“I want to say that I also despise Inter because for three months it deceived viewers and spread enmity among citizens of this country.”
Now that’s a lass with some guts.
