It’s true that Muslims have a controversial track record when it comes to boarding planes after September 11, 2001. However, is it reasonable to hold them accountable for almost any – even if unconfirmed – hijacking that takes place in the world?

Of course it’s not.

But when it comes to the most intriguing and mysterious disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, which was being piloted by – wait for it – a Muslim man, the temptation to come up with conspiracy theories and blame Islam for global terrorism is almost irresistible. There also happens to be two Iranian men with stolen passports on the aircraft.

Therefore, one can’t blame the following people for coming up with the Islamophobic responses they shared on Twitter.
