Chad Cameron Camp, 26, spoke to the girl and repeatedly placed his hands on the girl’s upper thighs and moved his hand near her private area, according to The Independent.
Camp was informed by a flight attendant that other seats were available on the flight, but he chose to sit next to the 13-year-old girl who was traveling alone.
She moved the girl to another seat further up and ordered Camp to move towards the back of the plane, away from the girl.
Brent Goodfellow, an attorney for the teenager, spoke on her behalf regarding the incident.
“She is already saying she doesn’t want to be on an airplane ever again,” he said.
Facebook user Cindy Gallop posted a link to this story on her page and expressed her thoughts.
“This is what 13-year-old girls go through. Women and girls aren't safe anywhere. Men, you need to change the culture so other men don't do this,” she wrote.
Another Facebook user named Dianna Zandt posted the story and shared her similar experience of sexual abuse on an airplane.
“Something similar happened to me on a redeye from SF once. Guy kept acting like he was asleep and put his hand on my leg several times,” Zandt said.
Camp was arrested once the plane landed and is currently being held in jail without bail.
The family of the 13-year-old girl will file a civil lawsuit against American Airlines as a result of the incident, according to Lipstick Alley.
