A man in New Mexico beat his friend to death and has placed the blame on AMC's hit show, The Walking Dead.
New Mexico police spokesman Moses Marquez reportedly said yesterday that Damon Perry, 23, is being charged with murder for brutally beating his friend Christopher Paquin over the weekend.
Perry claims that he and Paquin had been hanging out and drinking alcohol, until Paquin began to “change into a zombie” and tried to bite him.
Authorities said Perry had allegedly been binge-watching the popular zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead which is the reason he so greatly feared being eaten alive by Paquin, according to the Cibola Beacon.
Perry reportedly used his hands, feet, an electric guitar and a microwave (random?) to beat Paquin to death.
I’ve heard of some pretty crazy stuff before but this is extremely bizarre. Everything from Perry blaming a TV series for committing a murder to using a microwave as a weapon just doesn’t make any sense.
This makes us wonder ... Is binge-watching tantamount to brainwashing?
This case could be the beginning of a very real psychological issue connected to binge-watching.
Is it potentially dangerous to become so captivated by a movie or show that it distorts your perception of fiction and reality?
Of course, this case is still under investigation and Perry’s attorney has not made public comments as of yet.
Perry’s actions could very well be attributed to drugs or he could just be completely lying to try to make an excuse for killing his “so-called” friend.
Other details will likely come to light about this, but … if Perry’s attorney can really make a valid case out of “binge-watching gone bad,” this may not be the last time we hear of such an outrageous defense.
