Some emboldened racists have been using Donald Trump’s election to presidential office as an excuse for berating Muslims, in ugly attempts to “put them in their place.”
Last Thursday, a video of a racist outburst was posted to Facebook by YouTube personality Karim Metwaly which has since racked up more than five million views, Fusion reported.
In Astoria, Queens, an Uber driver identified as Muhammed by The Washington Post faced brutal harassment from an unnamed motorist who was driving past him. Luckily, Muhammed recorded it on his cell phone to expose the bigot who threatened him. But, it’s not clear what provoked the tirade.
“F***ing Arab motherfucker,” the man in the white SUV can be heard saying. “Trump is president, a**hole. So you can kiss your f***ing visa goodbye, scumbag. They’ll deport you soon. Don’t worry, you f***ing terrorist.”

Regarding the tirade, Senator Michael Gianaris stated on Facebook, “Hateful rhetoric should not be tolerated in a neighborhood where all races and different beliefs are welcome. More than ever, now is the time to unite and organize. We will stand together against cowardly attacks and show that our values and vision for our country will triumph over hate.”
Reportedly, Muhammed wasn’t planning on sharing the video online until he was convinced to do so by his next costumer, Chris Cody, a history professor. Cody recalled that Muhammed referred to the altercation as a “horrible incident.”
Simply put, it’s not okay to use the president-elect as an excuse for racism or anti-Muslim bigotry. The political climate for Muslims living in the United States is becoming more contested, judging from the incoming Trump administration’s rhetoric and policy suggestions.
