The Dutch-based nonprofit, Mars One, has narrowed down their list of Mars hopefuls to 50 men and women who will compete for a one-way trip to the Red Planet starting as early as 2024. The foundation plans to set up the competition as a reality TV series with these 100 aspiring astronauts fighting for a chance to die on Mars. The winners will be flown off into space and expected to start a permanent colony on Mars.

The final selection of applicants was narrowed down from the original pool of 200,000 contestants.
