Medvedev Urges Lawmakers To Ratify Start

"Russian President Dmitry Medvedev urged U.S. and Russian lawmakers to ratify the strategic arms reduction treaty he and President Barack Obama have signed. At a meeting in Washington Thursday with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Medvedev said he and Obama have done their part to get the START treaty ratified, Tass reported.""Now, it is the turn of the legislators,"" Medvedev said.He said his U.S. visit left him ""optimistic about the future,"" adding it ""will make a positive contribution"" to U.S.-Russia relations.Welcoming the Russian president, Pelosi thanked him for trying to reduce nuclear stockpiles, pursuing START ratification and imposing sanctions against Iran and North Korea."
