The Burka Avenger is the superhero we had all been waiting for! This Pakistani hero is the first South Asian ninja, a teacher, who uses books and pens as weapons.
The show is the first ever animated series ever made in Pakistan addressing the problem of girls’ education and other social issues as well. It has been conceived by one of the most popular singers of the country, Haroon.
“The Burka Avenger is an amazing action-comedy animated TV series that follows the adventures of the Burka Avenger and three young kids in the imaginary city of Halwapur as they fight the evil Baba Bandook and his henchmen.”
The show aims towards making people laugh, to entertain and to send out strong social messages to the youth, especially Pakistani youth that would help to reinforce positive social behavior.
Militant organizations such as the Taliban have made it almost impossible for girls in tribal areas of Pakistan to go to schools and get an education. These radical Islamists have blown up hundreds of schools and attacked human rights activists in Pakistan’s northwest.
The Burka Avenger, though just an animated series, will help to constantly remind the people of Pakistan of the fact that no matter how much resistance certain elements would create in the way of education, attainment of knowledge should never be discouraged.
The series also has an official Facebook page which gives a very clear description of what the superhero is all about:
“The Burka Avenger wears the burka veil to hide her identity like superheroes do. Her alter ego is that of a mild-mannered teacher at a girls’ school. Her use of pens and books as projectile weapons to fight the bad guys is symbolic on many levels.”
“Her main motto is “Justice, Peace and Education for all.”
People in Pakistan are really looking forward to watching The Burka Avenger. Following is a trailer for the series. Do check it out and share your comments:
