Mexican Ex-President To Trump: No, We’re Not Paying For A Wall

Former Mexican president Felipe Calderón said that Mexico would not pay a "single cent" to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

Since announcing his candidacy, Donald Trump has been spouting the notion that he will “build a wall” around Mexico to solve the problem of undocumented immigrants, and then have Mexico pay for it.

While this lack of complex thinking enthuses his followers, any sane individual knows it’s completely impossible, which is essentially what Mexico’s former president, Felipe Calderón, told CNBC on Sunday.

“Mexican people, we are not going to pay any single cent for such a stupid wall!” he said. “If this guy pretends that closing the borders to anywhere either for trade (or) for people is going to provide prosperity to the United States, he is completely crazy.”

Calderón continued to wonder how America could even consider electing such a candidate (something a majority of the country is also wondering): “It is incredible that a quite admirable society like the American society could produce such kind of candidates…I cannot understand. So Donald Trump … is [an] ambitious but not exactly very well-informed man, I don’t want to say ignorant, but he is not very well informed.”

Calderón himself was not a great leader for the Mexican people during his six years in office, inadequately addressing the significant drug cartel problem and unable to stem thousands of violent deaths. Yet even he can see the insanity of Trump.

Trump remains firmly married to the idea. He responded to Calderón’s remarks on Monday, informing MSNBC that, “He’ll pay. Trust me, he’ll pay. We have such a trade imbalance with Mexico. We have such a trade deficit. The wall is peanuts compared to that number.”
