The family of Mia Amber Davis, the actress/model who died Tuesday after having knee surgery, has said the cause of death was a blood clot.

The news comes from her cousin Dr. Mignon R. Moore, who told E! News that the husband of the Road Trip star was notified by the coroner yesterday of the finding.

“The family is devastated,” she says. “This was such an unexpected loss, and she went to a very reputable physician. I took her myself on the day of her surgery and within 24 hours she was dead.”

Davis had seemingly routine arthroscopic knee surgery in Los Angeles on Monday, a day before her death. Her husband, who was in New York at the time, says he spoke to Davis on Tuesday and that she sounded fine, but hours later heard she was taken to the hospital with dizziness, and later died.

Plus Model Magazine, where Davis worked as an editor, put up a tribute to Davis and also wrote the following on their blog:

"Mia was a super model and industry leader because it was her love for the women she represented that kept pushing her when the industry itself did not embrace her ... Today we lost our dear friend, plus size model, industry leader and colleague but we have one more heavenly angel watching over us."
