We know that applying makeup while driving is not safe but that certainly doesn’t mean every time a woman gets into trouble with wheels on the road, makeup is to be blamed.
MINI Mexico has come up with an ad titled “Don’t makeup and drive.” In the spot they claim that 22 percent of car accidents are caused by women drivers. But what they forgot to clarify was that not all accidents from that 22% occur because of makeup.
The reasons for accidents can be various. But from the ad it appears as if all the accidents committed by women happen because they wear makeup sitting behind the wheel.
Ellie Krupnick from the Huffington Post is not at all happy with the new MINI Mexico ad. She calls it ‘going a bit far in linking on-the-fly makeup application with a quarter of Mexico's car crashes.’
Krupnick also thinks that it’s understandable how serious the problem is and that the message is all right but it became sort of an overstatement of facts when they related makeup with almost all the road accidents. And she is quite right when you come to think of it.
The ad also claims 1 in 4 women believe that not wearing makeup could cost them a promotion and amid this fear many of them wear makeup whilst driving. To me, this part of the ad also makes no sense whatsoever. What about the other 3 women? Is it necessary that these fearful women will ‘always’ wear makeup in the car?
Sounds a bit off the mark right? Watch the ad in the video above and tell us what you think.
