Margaret Thatcher was a British Conservative Party politician who served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979-1990.
She was the only woman premiere of the country and was also the longest-serving prime minister of the United Kingdom. Policies implemented during her period came to be known as Thatcherism. Her rigid political views earned her the nickname ‘The Iron Lady’.
Thatcher died on 8 April, 2013 after suffering a stroke at The Ritz Hotel in London. Though she is admired for being the first and so far the only British woman prime minister, there are some who don’t like her for her uncompromising political legacy. According to news reports, several hundred people gathered in Brixton and Glasgow to ‘celebrate’ her death with cans of beer and street disco music.
After her death was announced, the internet was abuzz with obituaries, opinions, comments, Thatcher’s memorable quotes and pictures. Everyone had something to say about the Iron Lady. Some praised her while others were very critical:
