Waterboarding is an inhumane form of torture we debate whether the world's most evil terrorists deserve. So what could have possibly possessed a mom of waterboarding her own children?
Fortunately, society – and her children – won't have to worry about Lakechia Schonta Stanley's reign of terror anymore. The 34-year-old St. Louis, Missouri, mom was sentenced to 78 years in prison for waterboarding and systematically abusing her two young daughters.
As recounted by her three children, Stanley would beat them with baseball bats for infractions like not cleaning the kitchen quickly enough. They were forced into freezing and scalding hot showers, hit with electrical cords and even waterboarded.
"She was supposed to be their mother, the one person they could trust. Instead she became a symbol of betrayal and fear, using every tool at her disposal to beat and torture her own innocent children," assistant circuit attorney Tanja Engelhardt told the judge.
Stanley's husband, Andrew Rui Stanley, was also convicted of dozens of child abuse charges. He received 160 years in prison.
Good riddance to both Stanleys and here's to a lifetime of peace for the children.
