Despite international condemnation, Russia continues to back Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his regime against the rebels.
Russia and its premier Vladimir Putin claim the bombings help a long-time ally -- and of course, save the world from terrorism.
The Syrian president himself considers this intervention necessary. However, there are concerns that Russia's involvement could just be the beginning of another proxy war between Russia and the United States.
"We are not striving for any kind of leadership over Syria. Syria can have only one leader -- the Syrian people," Putin claims.
"We aim at making a contribution in the fight against terrorism, which is dangerous for the United States, for Russia and for the European countries, and for the whole world without exaggeration."
