A murder suspect who has been on the run for nearly six months is the latest celebrity on Facebook with over 1,500 friends accompanied with a fan page of his own. Known as John Anslow, the suspect broke out of prison van by a gang of balaclava clad men while he was on his way to court in January. This made him the first category A prisoner to escape in 17 years.
The 32-year-old suspect who is believed to have fled to Spain or North Africa broke cover from his concealment last month to read messages sent to him by his loved-ones and at the same time accept invitations sent to him by 400 of his friends. With the recent addition he has more than 1,500 friends on his personal Facebook page at present. Just after three days of his prison escape, a Facebook page was made in his honor by the name of 'John Anslow is A Innocent MAN Being SET UP'.
The page has over 300 likes and messages of encouragement from well wishers. Both his pages feature photos of Anslow posing with guns and swimming with dolphins.
On the flip side, police officials believe that such an attitude from people is inappropriate. 'This is embarrassing for the police. He thinks he's untouchable now and it's like he's playing to crowd.'
A reward of 10,000 pounds has already been offered to anyone who can help bring Anslow to justice.
