Murkowski Returning To Alaska Amid Ballot Count

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is returning to Alaska as election workers continue tabulating write-in ballots that will help determine whether she wins re-election.

Murkowski is heading to Anchorage after raising money for her legal defense fund. Write-in votes are being counted in Juneau.

Campaign manager Kevin Sweeney says the Alaska trip as planned when it was thought the write-in count would finish Friday. That appears doubtful now given the plodding pace of the detail-oriented work. She's expected back in Washington when Congress reconvenes next week.

While initial write-in votes have skewed heavily in Murkowski's favor, and Murkowski has expressed confidence in winning, Sweeney says there's no intent to lay claim to victory ""definitely"" until all votes are counted."
