Hell hath no fury like a woman scored. And Najam Sethi just got a taste of that adage!
It appears that Najam Sethi made a terrible mistake when he took on Jemima Khan, ex wife of Imran Khan – famous cricketer and now a well-known political figure inside the country. Their ‘fight’ took place on twitter and here’s how it boiled down. Sethi hosts a very famous show called ‘Apas Ki Baat’ on GEO TV and is not a stranger to controversy.
Known for making candor remarks and comments, Najam Sethi is well known in the country for not holding back. But anti-Semitic remarks of his didn’t sit too well with heiress Jemima Khan who didn’t leave much room for the talk show host to maneuver.
Anti Semitism is described as hatred towards Jews for their heritage. Anti Semites hate Jews because they’re Jewish and that is greatly frowned upon by society and it is, in most cases, punishable by law too.
Najam Sethi’s tweet on February 8th 2012 went something like this:
@qumarmc Brit media described Jemima as a “jewish heiress”. Google her. But it doesn’t matter. Love transcends. Didn’t she convert to Islam?
This isn’t the first time Najam Sethi has deliberately tried to incite religious hatred. Earlier in his program he also pointed out Imran Khan and mentioned Jewish Lobby in connection with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman. Whether Imran Khan is or isn’t a stooge of the Jewish lobby is up for question, however it was quite reckless on Najam Sethi’s part to incite the religion card. In a country like Pakistan, which is not known for religious tolerance, having any connections with a lobby that’s generally considered to be haters of Islam and Muslims is akin to passing a death verdict. The fact that Najam Sethi did just that and on such huge platforms like TV and Twitter, is not just reckless and wrong, but also quite disturbing.
However the way Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Khan handled the situation was quite classy. Beating Najam Sethi at his own game and with such bluntness has surely made Jemima the bigger person here. This is the transcript of how it actually went down:
@najamsethi what rubbish. Sounds like you’re trying to make trouble
@najamsethi You have always been a critic of IK’s (except when you and your wife wanted an invitation to dinner with Princess Diana OBVS)
You call yourself a journalist @najamsethi ? Then check your facts
FYI @najamsethi Not that it should matter but the Jewish religion goes thro the mother- My father’s mother was a French Catholic
@KAMRAN_FAR00Q @najamsethi My mother is a Protestant
In any case, pathetic & irresponsible that you should use your position to play the race/ religion card & stir up the fanatics @najamsethi
Game, set and match – Jemima Khan!
