Nathan Cirillo died at the hands of a coward who reportedly shot the Canadian soldier twice in the back in an unprovoked attack on Oct. 22.
But Canada is determined to give Cirillo the hero's farewell he deserves. Throughout the Great White North, fellow Canadians are quietly, movingly paying tribute to Cirillo's sacrifice.
Gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, who's being called a homegrown radical, was shot dead in Canada's Parliament building in Ottawa. Before he open fired at Parliament, Zehaf-Bibeau killed Cirillo at the National War Memorial.
Cirillo's body went to its final resting place via Canada's Highway of Heroes, a somber 500-kilometer route along Lake Ontario, and the same road the remains of Canada's war dead travel along.
