Outside the hospital where Nelson Mandela remains in a critical condition the stream of well-wishers is unabated.
On Monday Mandela's grandson Mandla thanked South Africa and people world-wide for their support.
He said: "We've been grateful to South Africans and people of the global community who have showered the family with prayers and we are hoping that my grandfather will recover steadily. He is under good care, under the supervision of nurses and doctors which we have been grateful for their efforts in ensuring that they are at his bedside and attending to him."
Mandela's revered by millions as the father of post-apartheid South Africa.
But the 94-year-old's deterioration over the weekend with a lung infection has made many realize he won't be around forever.
