New Bill Nye Video Uses Science To Defend Women's Reproductive Rights

Bill Nye uses science to eloquently explain why women's bodies should be controlled by women, not legislation.

In addition to being a pillar of our adolescence, Bill Nye the Science Guy has given us another reason to revere him.

In a recently released Big Think video Bill Nye used what he knows best, science, to defend women's reproductive rights.

Amid the threat of increased abortion restrictions and the current attack on Planned Parenthood, it's increasingly important for women who understand that their bodies are to be controlled by themselves, not legislation, to have as many allies as possible standing with them.

In Nye's Video, he perfectly disputed the argument that life begins at the time an egg is fertilized.

"If you're going to say when an egg is fertilized, it therefore has the same rights as an individual, then whom are you going to sue?" Nye asks in the video. "Whom are you going to imprison? Every woman who has had a fertilized egg pass through her? Every guy whose sperm has fertilized an egg but it didn't become a human?"

Nye explains that in the eyes of science, it's not valid to say that life begins at fertilization because eggs are fertilized all the time, but it must actually attach to the uterine wall in order to become a pregnancy and that doesn't always happen just because an egg is fertilized.

"It's just a reflection of a deep scientific lack of understanding," Nye says of such logic.

"Nobody likes abortion, okay. But you can't tell somebody what to do, Nye said. "I mean, she has rights over this, especially if she doesn't like the guy that got her pregnant. She doesn't want anything to do with your genes, get over it."

In just four minutes and 37 seconds Nye completely debunks all the ridiculous claims about birth control, conception, abortion and abstinence that were founded on ignorance and the biblical ideologies that many people think hold weight in this day and age.
