The New York Daily News found itself in a firestorm of criticism after tweeting its choice of photos for the Aug. 27 front page highlighting the two television journalists shot and killed on live TV in Virginia by a disgruntled former employee of the news channel.
Readers were shocked to see the tabloid published the graphic images of the attack that were uploaded by the shooter.
The tabloid picked screengrabs from the grisly video recorded by Vester Lee Flanagan as he opened fire on 24-year-old reporter Alison Parker and Adam Ward, a 27-year-old cameraman, during a live interview for WDBJ7.

The NY Daily News is notorious for its inappropriate cover photos, however, the decision to publish photos of the live shooting has set off a scorching round of criticism online, with some users calling for the newspaper’s boycott.
NY Daily News just shared a disgusting image they plan to have on cover tomorrow. Can't imagine how anyone involved can sleep easy tonight.— Hunter Walker (@hunterw) August 27, 2015
I hate that I just saw NY Daily News cover. What a repulsive decision. I went the whole day managing to avoid any images of it... Then that.— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) August 27, 2015
Everybody should boycott buying the @NYDailyNews paper!! Who in their right mind would think it's OK to print that photo?? Shame on them!!— Matthew Gregoire (@BreakngNewsPhtg) August 27, 2015
The @NYDailyNews should be ashamed, that cover is tasteless... Disrespectful to the victims, glorifies the "snuff film" (as they put it).— MikeFerri (@MikeFerri) August 27, 2015
Some have even suggested alternative covers:

The tabloid has not yet responded to the backlash.
